WHAT ON EARTH SHOULD I WEAR THIS FALL???

The weather begins to chill, the leaves begin to brown, and, naturally, we want to freshen up our wardrobes to meet the new season! Trendy, timeless, and, of course snug, is the aim of this list.

This lookbook is for our US/UK family. Southern Hemisphere – a Spring wardrobe pick is in the works for you too, so watch this space.

Prada Boots with Wide Tread:
https://rstyle.me/+6bFIluU_EN_X_HfsIt7yTg

These Prada boots are to die for – wide tread is a big 2020 trend, and I am loooving it! This is an unusual take on it, pairing the edgy girl look, with a classic riding boot – eliciting a cross-pollination of Country Girl elegance with Chic City Living. Definitely wear these from the office to the fashion show. Works well with a classic trench.

Calvin Klein Trench Coat:
https://rstyle.me/+yD48ma8edjf6UbbpkpopPA

This Calvin Klein trench coat will be the gift that keeps on giving. In neutral tones that will take you through many seasons, timelessly adding refinement to any outfit. This specific piece is part of the Vestiaire Collection, and comes in at Very Good Condition …and Very Good Price, too, I might add! Think simple – chunky white wool turtlenecks paired with mini skirts and boots.

Alberta Ferretti Frayed Mini Skirt In Cream Colour:
https://rstyle.me/+k11Vu_3cibPDtx7vSTewfA

This sweet little Alberta Ferretti is a classic nod back to the sixties – see Margot Robbie in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. This skirt is sure to keep your fall cute, and is versatile enough to work with an array of stockings, boots (both ankle and knee length), and because of the colour, will pair well with practically all your beloved tops. This is an investment piece, and the style can forever be reimagined, and reinterpreted.

MANU Atelier XX Micro Cylinder Bag:
https://rstyle.me/+i6wrNBbxv7kxGvvJ82K6YA

The chunky gold chains… The neutral warm hues… This is 2020. We are craving comfort, but also feeling a need to rebel. This piece is a winner, and I need it. NOW!

Nastygal Knit’s Not Going to Happen Sweater and Joggers Lounge Set:
https://rstyle.me/+hPU26spwwIYrQw8THcH-Eg

Cute loungewear to keep us comfy but not feeling like actual slobs… This is exactly what we have here. At price point, too, to make the budget (and the material) stretch.

UO Flat Brim Felt Fedora Hat – Beige at Urban Outfitters:
https://rstyle.me/+TsgVTAIPfgC7OXEtyg9vEw

When in doubt, add a hat. This beige fedora is so swish, it will elevate the simplest outfit, and give added interest.

Oasis Midi Dress by Free People:
https://rstyle.me/+BpPkwfcge2qgrIcUw-bOJg

Pretty, flowy, feminine, for our soft girl days. Autumn is a time where all the colours warm up, intensifying before the cold brush of winter blanches all the hues to shades of blue and grey. This dress is perfect for the not-so cold days.

Cream Dresses – Lorna Luxe Ivory ‘Amelie’ Lace Detail Slip Dress:
https://rstyle.me/+c3oogs8kjTAPtw9zyusENg

A satin slip is my idea of grace. This can be worn with a knit cardigan day or night.

Lee Matthews Striped ribbed-knit cardigan:
https://rstyle.me/+IzbsH9eo1lzBuEOZ-8bmRw

The polo neck is very in right now, and rightly so. Demure yet form-fitted, country nostalgia. I adore!

FROM PRADA TO ZARA: September’s Vogue Picks & Their High Street Equivalents

Flipping through this month’s British Vogue, I outlined some of my favourite trends and have linked where you can shop them, as well as some affordable high street alternatives!

TREND: ORGANZA

Organza material is lightweight, shimmery and graceful – and, it is all over the pages of Vogue this month.

I absolutely love Gigi Hadid in this Prada dress, and although it is not available to buy just yet, I did find a great Zara alternative, that captures the feel.

DESIGNER: PRADA

Prada Organza Blouse – British Vogue Sept 2020

HIGH STREET: ZARA

Zara – R699/$32,07
https://www.zara.com/za/en/knit-and-organza-jacket-trf-p02488106.html?v1=56677053

TREND: FRILLED POPLIN SHIRTS

These shirts make me think of days gone by. Very romantic. Very nostalgic. Very feminine. D&G have a beautiful broderie anglaise top below, and Zara has a very sweet alternative.

DESIGNER: DOLCE & GABBANA

Dolce & Gabbana Cotton Blouse with R19 791,80/$995

HIGH STREET: ZARA

Zara – R699/$32,07
https://www.zara.com/za/en/embroidered-top-with-ruffle-trim-p07200026.html?v1=51057376

TREND: TIMELESS SHIRTS

This isn’t really a trend, because I don’t think these will ever go out of fashion. However, a well-cut shirt is definitely at the forefront of this year’s fashion imagery, and I think one in beautiful material is just oh-so-flattering.

DESIGNER: MARGARET HOWELL

Margaret Howell R3 378,30/$155

Zara R799/$36,66
https://www.zara.com/za/en/striped-blouse-p09479043.html?v1=58107804&v2=1277472

TREND: TAILORED SUITS

We are very much into reclaiming the masculine this year. 2020 needs to be taken on ferociously, at times, and nothing says “I am here, and I am ready” like a fresh new suit.

DESIGNER: SALVATORE FERRAGAMO

Salvatore Ferragamo R31 161,30/$1430

Zara R2299/$105,48
https://www.zara.com/za/en/blazer-with-belt-p07199418.html?v1=59333935

TREND: KNIT EVERYTHING

From Jacque Mus to Skims, we want knit in all shapes and sizes. The polo neck is making a big comeback, and bralettes under cardigans are also very timely. There are so many great designers creating beautiful pieces, I especially like ribbed versions, and really you can go wild in all colours with this. Comfort is another thing we are craving in these upheaving times.

Zara R619/$28,40

Look out for next months’ picks, as I will be translating into a whole array of different high street names, not just Zara.

Stay Safe. Stay Comfortable. Stay Chic.

Lockdown Style for The Girl Who Just Stays In

Cosy Outfit INspiration

Because of the tumultuous times thrown upon us, many of us are confined to our couches. This is a time of uncertainty in which we can easily get the blues.

Let us not underestimate the Power of Fashion.

What we wear has the ability to structure our days, to brighten our days, to give us a sense of normality, to give us a feeling of safety …of cosiness, to make us feel a bit more like the best version of ourselves, like we are carrying on, and the world is carrying on too.

If you are feeling a bit blue, in a slump, not knowing what to do…

Get dressed.

Psychologically it will indicate to your mind that you are ready and the day has begun.

So …on that note, here are some comfy outfit ideas that are on trend right now for The Girl Who Just Stays In!

  1. Comfy Co ords
  2. Crop Hoodies + Joggers
  3. Dress Up The Top, and Down The Bottom for The Work-From-Home Girl
  4. The Cute Night Set (for the days when we consciously decide to just Turn Off)

BLAZERS – The Must Have Trend Right Now

Blazing trails from day to night. The blazer on the female form has a rich history, from little Chanel jackets coating the movement toward female emancipation, and the rise of women in the workplace, to years later, becoming the mundane and symbolising work, not play.

Now, the blazer is reimagined into the hottest pick of trends right now. No more is it confined to the office boss lady, it’s for the creative, it’s for the chic, it’s for cocktail lounges and casual city meets, day to night, the blazer is It.

Over-sized, with heels, in a pant suit, with nothing underneath, recreated into a dress-look, chic and office ready with pencil trousers… There are endless ways to rock the blazer, and here are some of my favourite put-togethers by powerful and imaginative women. Hope it inspires you.

FINDING YOUR FIT

I’ve had a few conversations with women recently, and we all have had similar issues and I think, before we’ve spoken about it, we’ve all felt like we are the only ones with this problem: that boots… no… clothes(!) …don’t always fit! They may fit on the foot but not the calf, or the thigh but not the foot, or the waist but not the legs or the boobs but not the tum etc. etc., you get the point.

In short, we are not the problem.

The problem is that mass-produced, ready-to-wear garments are fitted to an average, a calculation that is, at best, neeearly right, for most of us. I repeat, at best. The human body is unique, like our DNA, like our fingerprints, and, suffice to say, it would be mad to think we all have the same ratio in calf size to thigh size to foot size etc etc.

But …we make do, because most of us are loath to fork out the couture figures $$$$ and sacrifice eating out (or just eating at all) for figure-fitting cloth.

Before I begin, just letting you know that I haven’t spoken in terms of size as a number, just because I really feel like it can be triggering for a lot of us, and can even make us rate ourselves according to some nonsensical idea of self-worth-to-size ratio… Made up by who? The media, and even by the fashion houses we all know and love …and then consumed, hungrily, by none other than …ourselves. Sadly.

Anyway, here we go. This is a quick quick guide to online shopping for boots!

APHRODITE’S

You may often find it hard to get the zipper up, maybe when it gets to the top of your calf, or your ankle. Look for a wider, stiffer material, especially ones that are made to have a gap at the top of the boot, these will be the snuggest, most comfortable fit for you. Stretches could be a bit tricky especially in PVC, but, again, trust your intuition, and look at the picture.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is screen-shot-2020-03-06-at-5.42.48-pm.png
https://www.zando.co.za/public-desire-public-desire-thriller-boots-black-patent-166733.html

ATHENA’S

You may often find that thigh high, or even knee-high boots slide down your legs, or the shape looks a bit odd because your legs don’t feel like they are encapsulated properly in the fit, and maybe the sides of the material bulge out, and not in a good way… For you, the best bet would be to look for stretch fits rather than stiff material, as these are made on the less bulky side. Always take into account the picture on the model and assess by eyes, we usually know ourselves better than we think. Also, have a deeper dive into product details, they may even have measurements included if they are really On, and then it’s up to you to get your tape measure out!

Always check the returns policy, and the small print, just in case, and factor in the postal, to return if they don’t fit right.

And, if all else fails, ankle boots usually work for all of us 😉

MY TOP 3 PICKS OF BOOTS RIGHT NOW – SS20 & Beyond

AKA These Boots Are Made For Worshipping

Right now, from the Saint Lauren runway to Balenciaga and beyond …it’s all about The Boot.

I’ve been feeling The Boot for a while now (again).

…My foot fetish began with a little white cowgirl kick that set my wardrobe on fire, and got the compliments coming in from passersby at airport pickups to grocery lines to cocktail joints, to me wanting to take them off and hit them with them …jokes (But it was a small percentage of the conversation-sparker that you get when your dog is a puppy and everyone suddenly develops real Before-Social-Media social skills).

And lo-and-behold, my semi-premonition was confirmed by SS2020 runway picks, all the way from London to New York – and with Cape Town’s crossover weather, paired with The Boot’s innate versatility – everything is telling me it’s time to take a stand (in The Boot, ofc).

…And these are the ones I want to stand all over in!

Just like the old Clint Eastwood film, I feel that your wardrobe will be well-balanced for any kind of stand-off in these 3 showstoppers :

The Good …The Bad …& the Ugly:

1. THE GOOD – WHITE LEATHER/PLEATHER NUMERO

@love_jessicajane

Paired with your favourite jeans, or a balmy summer’s night LBD, or some classic Daisy Dukes + T… This completes …no, makes(!) the outfit.

A little white ankle boot in leather or a good solid pleather, possibly with finely etched patterns or a buckle detail, or simply a block colour… Whichever way you go …this is a fresh, bold statement.

A bit of fun, a bit of wild, a bit of “I don’t take myself too seriously. Or do I…? Mwaha”.

Captivating. Unusual. I love it.

2. THE BAD – THE LITTLE RED DEVIL

@AimeeSong

I’ve been seeing Red all over the runways (and all over my Google Play list …But that’s another story (ilyyy Taylorrr)) and I think it’s all going to come down to one thing: a cute red ankle boot.

Again, it’s a similar idea to the above, but ends up playing a totally different song.

Speaking of Song, have a look at Aimee Song’s take on it above.

It’s all about the sheen, it’s all about a chunky heel or a sweet stiletto that you can really Paint The Town … Red …in.

3. THE UGLY – SNAKESKIN THIGH-HIGH

I say Ugly, but I joke, snakes are beautiful too. On a boot. I joke again (although I do have a substantially ingrained “I-threw-off-my-night-robe-tonight-while-writing-this-cos-the-tie-swished-against-my-leg” fear of the poor innocent creatures…).

Anyway, I digress…

The snakeskin thigh/sky-high (yes, the longer the better), is very relevant right now.

In fact, all thigh-highs are very very relevant now. And I have to, again, reiterate: It really is the longer the better.

Some of the heels clinking the London FW SS2020 runways almost seemed like trousers they were so long.

And they looked good. Real good, not just runway good.

Anyhow, these aren’t everywhere, but they aren’t too hard to find if you look, and, when found, add sophistication, elegance and oomph to any outfit.

A great way to wear them, giving you a little bit of mystery, is peeking out from just-below-the-knee skirts and dresses.

But, again… Go wild. Have fun.

Eat. The. Apple.

Happy Wednesday, we’re almost there.

XO

JJ

PS: Look out for a little post on Friday in which I will detail online shopping links to beautiful boots, and talk a bit about how to find the right fit, at a glance, to your gorgeous and unique legs.

Summer Staples Edit #1 – Outfit Essentials

when the sun comes out, these …I need.

The sun is shining. The fishies are jumping. The temperature’s rising. The wind is even getting less blowy-off-the-cliffy in Cape Town.

It’s Summer.

Yayy!

And it is my absolute favourite season to dress for (& to live in. But that’s another 500 posts)!

When I think of Summer, I think of:

light-weight materials
tan golden skin

cool drinks that mist up in your hands
crisp
fresh salads that fill you up …until you order that extra ice cream again (make mine 1 scoop coffee, 1 scoop chocolate, in a sugar cone, please. No …put the chocolate under the coffee….)

Okay! Swiftly moving on…

When Summer graces us with her presence I go to my wardrobe and check I still have these three things:

  1. White linen pants
  2. DENIM SHORTS
  3. WHITE CROP TOP

For me, these are the bare necessities, the building blocks of thousands of cute outfits.

The reason I say this is because …think of the combos!!!

WHITE LINEN PANTS

because they feel good,

because they look good,

because they are good (-quality, preferably, please).

They give you that swish to your outfit …that pristine floatiness …that, off-the-yacht feel …that serene summer vibe.

What Would I Wear Them With?

Pair them with little body suits in bright colours, or go all long and floaty and white, or add just bikini top for beach club nights… They can work heels and flats and sandals and wedges. They are so very versatile and they definitely make my 23kgs every time.

Where Can I Find Them?

Mango, H&M, Truworths, Habits SA

Denim shorts

because, well,

it’s hot,

they’re cute,

& so are you.

Henceforth together, you are unstoppable. It’s simple mathematics, dear.

What Would I Pair Them With?

Think long floaty blouses open at the top, revealing just a pop of bikini, maybe a glimmer of gold chain AVEC little blue denims, on the bottom.

Think crocodile cowboy boots for Out At Night, giving you that bit of Extra (tone down the top, for chic glam) AVEC little blue denim, ofc.

Think a simple pair of thongs (slip-slops or sandals) that show off your fresh pedi and make your tan pop AVEC little blue denim, ofc.

…The options are actually endless, and lbd(enim) is your starting point.

Sidenote: Well-fitted, and higher waists allow for even more combos – just make sure you check out your behind in the mirror before you purchase, because high-waists can go one or the other way – make your booty look fine, or make it …look not as fine as it really is.

WHERE CAN I FIND THEM?

Levi’s, Cotton On, Topshop, H&M

WHITE CROP TOP

she’s plain

she’s simple

she’s the girl-next-door

…until she’s not

WHAT WOULD I PAIR HER WITH?

A White Crop Top can go with a hundred thousand different patterned or block coloured high-waisted trousers, skirts, shorts… It’s so neutral, and, with a good cut and fit to your specific body, it can be: Fun. Chic. Elegant. Playful. It is …whatever you say it is (like that Eminem song). It’s a chameleon. A damn fine chameleon.

WHERE CAN I FIND HER?

Cotton On, H&M, Zara

So, in summary…

These three little details can be the starting point for much creativity, playfulness and summer fun; especially if you’re on your way somewhere, and don’t have all the room in your bags, they can be a handy beginning point for lots of very, very different outfit vibes.

But, there’s lots more to come, and lots more to add to Summer Staples Edit 😉

Happy Happy Monday!!!

And (Lots of) Love,

Jessica Jane ❤

Cape Town’s Resort Collections Fashion Show 2019

Inaugural Resort Collections Fashion Show 2019 Review – & What it Means for South African Fashion!!!

24 November 2019

Sponsored by Pick ‘n’ Pay, yesterday marked our very first Resort Collections Fashion Show, a celebration of South African summer, but it also yielded a surprise announcement of high-to-low collaboration between Pick ‘n’ Pay fashion and designer, Gavin Rajah, that could just turn South African fashion on its head!

With a runway of fynbos and a backdrop of mountains, warm evening rays welcomed Cape Town’s first Resort Collections Fashion Show. The Norval Foundation was an inspired choice of locale as models sashayed between us, the audience, our national flowers and sculptural works that have shaped the South Africa we know today.

From the beginning, the inaugural show promised to celebrate and uplift South African designers; ‘collaboration’ being a keyword of the evening.

Sponsors, Pick ‘n’ Pay Clothing announced next year’s affordable fashion collaboration with top designer Gavin Rajah leading a team of up and coming creators.

Much like Target (the US equivalent of Pick ‘n’ Pay) began these so-called ‘high-low’ collaborations years ago, South Africa is now following suit.

A little bit of background: Target worked with visionary and esteemed talents such as Jules Sarinana (think Scunci, Selfridges, Revolve) and other luxury household names (Alice Sui, Jason Wu, Missoni…) to bring well-cut, trendy garments to the general public at… Wait for it… AFFORDABLE PRICES!!!

In doing so, they not only ADDED the prestige, creativity and reliability of Big Name, but also SUBTRACTED the stigma of shopping at a price range the general public could more comfortably afford (and, let’s face it, this is even more true of South Africa with rent in The Ridiculous, and cost of living way ahead of salary in terms of inflation, not to mention minimum wage…).

Aside from not getting ourselves into extraordinary debt when picking out irresistible pieces, Pick ‘n’ Pay will allow us to support new local designers in a climate where it is increasingly difficult to establish yourself in The Creative. So… Kudos to Pick ‘n’ Pay!

After announcements we began with the much anticipated line-up!

Gavin Rajah x The Blom Boy

Whimsical headdresses of reeds and straw, kimono-like structures in soft textiles, sheer fabrics, and puffy off-shoulder sleeves. Rajah served us an assortment of hues from elegant florals in whites, royal blues, soft pinks, and then he made us double take with striking blacks and reds, and electric blues. Masculine lines complemented feminine waists, the Spanish picador met Vivienne Westwood-esque stripes. Rajah evoked pictures in the mind of Japanese geishas, Turkish Nazar Boncuks, Swan Lake… Inspired and delightful.

Pick ‘n’ Pay Clothing

Showcasing their off-the-rack swimwear collection we saw animal print, capes, wicker hats, whites and bright colours. A playful summer fashion, taking reference from Europe’s trends and designs that complement all body types.

Habits Fashion South Africa

Gone on Safari, be back soon.

I could just leave it at that, but let’s continue. We saw lots of tropical foliage-inspired patterns, whites, beige tones, kelly greens – very wearable and on trend. Little white tees were paired with high waists, cargo pants with loose linen shirts, long floaty dresses, stiff safari jackets, and that one unexpected tulle skirt. Lots to play with (I will definitely be on their online shop later tonight ;P). My favourite moment was definitely the oversized hat, I don’t care what it was paired with (long white layered dress), every girl loves a hat that feels like it shades her from all of the woes of the world, this galaxy’s, and then the next’s.

Philosophy by Jenni Button

Forever a fan of Jenni B’s fairy, feminine, floaty forms, today was not dissimilar. Big African bracelets, barely-there straps on off-the-shoulder chiffon. Embroidered details at the neckline give way to simplicity in unpatterned fabric. The romantic’s delight. Juliet’s couturier. Her lemon and magenta numbers felt particularly luminous moving in the light wind and lavender backdrop. Other numbers were more bold with animal print and structured patterns, for the fiercer-feeling days of feminine. Big applause.

Katekani Moreku

Moreku’s collection was inspired by childhood nostalgia. We saw an ecclectic use of unorthodox textiles to form visual narrative.

Firstly, she chose a backdrop of neon tiger orange (a traditional Xhosa colour) for all garments. Secondly, elbow-length t-shirt sleeves, over-the-knee to ankle length skirts, dresses and trousers were beautifully fitted to the female form. She then added plastic blocks of clashing hot pinks, yellows and blues in colonial-feeling checks, and bottle caps for buttons. Maize bags formed the foundation for structured pleats, and models walked in army-like convoy to Marvin Gaye’s ‘What’s Going On’… “Don’t punish me with brutality…/We’ve got to find a way/to bring some understanding here today…”. This collection moved me the most.

Craig Port x Maize Foundation

Here we see Summer, reinvented, from the music choice, a remake of Sublime’s, largely macabre, take on a Gershwin classic, ‘Summertime’ to the outfits. We saw Chanel-like tweed, white smocks, John Lennon glasses, white linen blouses, low dungarees, 1970s-esque disco sequins, tiny waists accentuated by balloon pants and big puffy sleeves, Mary Poppins, and days at the circus. Delightful.

Fikile Sokhulu

All cream and white. Ruffles, frays, afghan, high necklines… Crisp Victorian child’s wear comes to mind …very austere until puffy sleeves give way to cream frays in natural fibres, and shoulders suddenly become bare, and torsos peek out in modest crop tops, and two models carry handmade bear-like toys. A postmodern, deconstruction of the summer resort. Interesting motifs, and utterly, delectably tactile and wearable.

Vanessa Gounden

Floor-length plaits, sheer materials, satins and silks. Gounden aspires to dress the intellectual woman in timeless forms. Her collection seemed inspired by the sea. Seashell-prints brought to mind that of Versace, Jasmine crop tops with wide leg pants in pastels evoked images of Jasmine from Aladdin. Electric blue ruffles were almost scale-like, on top of seaweed prints in soft textiles. My favourite piece being a black bateau-neck dress, bosom adorned with a massive sequined bow and the top half shimmering like the sea.

SUMMARY

The Resort Collections is meant to be transferrable in numerous ways, pieces that are fresh and would be very welcome in a discerning traveller’s suitcase for a Summer getaway can live on through winter, because our season’s are not extreme, and the patterns and materials are classic, and, well …you just might want to wear them again and again.

Reclaiming cutesy ‘girl’ colours and turning them Siren in the Supermarket.

1. Pearls

Your Grandma’s pearls have just been stolen from her jewelry box and given a facelift …and they’ve never looked better. What’s more, they’ve met their long lost soul mate: gold metal.

Pearl is back in a BIG way and you will see it across the high street and beyond to couture fashion houses and designer labels. It’s a far cry from your Gran’s string you used to play dress-up with. Natural shapes are mixed with golden metals to give new life. Combine this with white cotton shorts, and you’re getting straight-off-the-Riviera feels. Use it to make your old outfits new, classic, crisp, adding an elegant exuberance and lux glam.

2. Gypsy Flair …with an Edge

Think purples, burnt shades of oranges, pinks, puffed-up sleeves, hoops, headbands, oversized bejewelled clips, long flowy skirts, crop tops, statement belts – now mash it all up and see what happens!

Cha Cha, the girl that Danny shouldn’t have been dancing with in Grease? This the edge. Patterns, prints, florals, puffed-up sleeves but NOT in sugar-sweet coating. It’s a mature type of feminine we are feeling here. Think strappy sandals, carefully chosen arm bling, crop tops, flowy skirts paired with forever in-style golden hoops which come in assorted shapes and sizes. Headbands, high-waists… Play, play, play. Add high ponytails, big loose waves. Endless options here, you can really make this your own.

3. 1980s Disco Glam

Short skirts. Bright Colours. Glitter. Tulip Skirts. Neon. It’s a ‘You Can Have Your Cake and Eat It’ kind of Fashion.

We are loving bold, bright, playful colours, sequins, glitter, hot pinks, huge scrunchies, platformed sandals and neon. Let’s call this a vamp-ed up 2019-80 and …there are no rules!

4. Micro Bags in Rainbow Shades

Popping the outfit, rather than camouflaging in.

Matchy-matchy has it’s time and place …but this is not it. We are looking for that unexpected pop of seemingly random boldness that somehow feels like it was always meant to be there. It’s that “aaaah… Thaaat’s what that needed!’ strike of genius-flair that says effortless, daring, fun, bold – and all at the same time. With a plethora of shapes and colours, pick up that micro with a breezy ‘I nearly forgot my bag’ casual, kind-of after thought (little will they know your hawk’s eye put that puzzle piece in it’s place long ago …and with evil-mastermind calculation 😉 :P).

5. Earth Goddess

Wicker, wicker, and more wicker! Add string crochet and natural materials to your bags, belts and hats for an earth queen feeling this season.

A natural bag or a wicker hat is your go-to friend to bring that earthy tone to your summer. If it’s peppered with natural seashells – even better.

It’s a ‘Sunday every day’-vibe, it’s a picnic under the stars, it’s a warm evening stroll, it’s barefoot in the park, it’s a late night city amble through dimly lit cobbled streets …it is pure romance.

6. Puffs, Frills and Ruffles Galore!

This is a trend I CANNOT get enough of.

…in blacks, whites, reds, multi-colour, floral …it really doesn’t matter! It just works. Sleeves, sleeves and more sleeves. We are taking reference from the 1890’s massive puffs …then we are flying to Spain to learn the flamingo and throwing in exaggerated ruffles …then maybe we will time travel to the 1930s and steal some shoulderpads from Cindy Crawford. This is a celebration of …The Statement. This is adding something Large to something sleek, subtle, and modern. …And it is just SO exciting!

7. Oversized Accessories

Clips, scrunchies, alice bands – Supersize Me!!!

We are seeing MAAAASSIVE hair clips, bows bigger than our faces, scrunchies that double time as statement armbling, and we are wearing them All. At. Once. This is a trend I can reeeaally get behind. Your inner child can go back to the 90s and finally wear that playtime outfit out of the house.

8. Ombre Lips and Eyeshadow

From uber popular make up vlogs to the person on the street – this is a trend that is everywhere.

Purples succumbing to palest pinks paired with neutral eyeshadow,s and vice-versa. From shoptellers to club-hoppers we are seeing a daring spirit of fashion, feminine, and fun. This look is an All-In Powerhouse. Reclaiming cutesy girl colours and turning them Siren in the Supermarket. Paired with unostentatious rags this gives your look a double-take whammy. In the era of Me Too, this is a Just-Try-Me (and you’ll live to regret it) look :P.

9. Whites and Creams

Summer’s immortal best friends. Chic, timeless, elegant, fresh. And now, we are mixing the two like they always belonged together, with reckless abandon!

From St Tropez to Cannes to your garden party, to lounging by any pool, to any fairylit evening cocktail party under any sparkly moon …whites and creams will forever be a midsummer night/day-dream. This is a fact. We cannot dispute it. There’s just something about a warm sun-kissed body, glowing under the evening rays, dressed from head to toe in pale linens that makes your senses heave a pleasureful sigh. Now we aren’t afraid to combine cream with white. There is no wrong here …so get on the light side.! Serene pale tones on dark bodies say: always fresh, always classy and, mark my words, heads will always turn.
